The painting depicts the interior of the artist’s studio and exemplifies Makowski’s mature, characteristic style combining influences of cubism and folk art with geometric forms and precise chiaroscuro modeling. The work was owned by the Parisian art dealer Jean Aron, who promoted Makowski’s work in France, as confirmed by a label on the reverse and the artist’s recollections from 1929. The painting was auctioned for 500,000 PLN.
