Paraplui emballage from the Multipart series, 1970
Paraplui emballage' from the Multipart series was created in 1970. It is an assemblage on canvas measuring 120 x 110 cm. In February 1970, at the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw, Kantor presented the Multipart action involving the sale of 40 numbered canvases with a destroyed umbrella attached to each, painted white. Buyers could freely interact with, change, and modify the works over the course of a year, after which the paintings were to return to a joint exhibition. The offered Multipart is a unique, additional copy prepared on special order by the buyer - Marek Rostworowski - who kept the artwork intact and refused to participate in the collaborative process. Thus, this painting is a unique collector's piece with complete documentation of correspondence and agreement with the Foksal Gallery.
