Descent from the Cross – triptych
Triptych depicting the scene of Jesus being taken down from the cross, showing many men lowering Christ's body. The painting, showing influences of Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Tintoretto, was created after Rubens returned from Italy. The central part of the triptych presents a dramatic and tense scene, showing sacrifice and pain in a passion scene. The painting along with the 'Crucifixion' was taken by Napoleon and later returned in the 19th century.
