Jan Dobkowski, also known as Dobson, is a Polish painter and illustrator who also deals with spatial arrangements, a graduate and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The artist became associated with the Neo-Neo-Neo group and gained international recognition, among others, thanks to an exhibition in Paris and the purchase of his painting by the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1962–1968), where he defended his diploma in the studio of Prof. Jan Cybis. Co-founder of the artistic group Neo-Neo-Neo, active until 1970.
His work is characterized by abstract painting, the use of vivid colors, especially red and green, and spatial compositions. His series of red and green silhouettes of figures from the late 1960s is particularly significant.
He took part in important national and international exhibitions. In 1968 he exhibited at the Secesja Gallery in Warsaw and also participated in the exhibition of Polish contemporary art in Paris. His work was acquired by the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
