Buy from reputable galleries, auction houses or directly from artists, taking care of documentation, authenticity and regular conservation of works. Remember, however, to collect primarily from passion, be open to new talents and constantly expand knowledge, which will allow your collection to develop and maintain value.

Purchasing an artwork is not only the price bid at auction or paid in a gallery, or in private sale. Behind this decision there are also various additional costs worth knowing.

You need to add commission (buyer's premium), VAT and costs of specialist transport, insurance and professional packaging. Additionally, you should consider expenses for conservation, professional framing, storage or exhibition, as well as legal fees, capital gains taxes and regular insurance of the entire collection. You also can't forget about so-called "invisible" costs, such as authenticity expertise or promotion of the work for future resale.
